Fall is a wonderful season to boost your home’s curb appeal. The weather isn’t as warm so it makes it easier to work outside. While you’re enjoying the autumn weather, here are a few projects I recommend you do to spruce up your home’s exterior this fall.

Plant a tree on your lawn. Trees add value to property. If you have room for a tree on your lawn, fall is a great time to plant a tree. That’s because the tree is in a dormant state. That makes it easier to transfer from the plant or tree nursery to your home without the tree going into much shock. Choose the tree wisely because it’s an investment. You don’t want to pick the wrong tree for your yard only to have to remove it because it’s growing too tall for your liking or it doesn’t fit in with your landscaping.

Paint your house to boost curb appeal. Since the hot summer sun won’t be beating down on you, fall is a good time to paint your home. Repaint your shutters to freshen up the paint, or choose a different color completely for your shutters. It’ll feel as though you have a brand new house!

Use fall-themed yard décor. You can get whimsical with the yard décor during the fall season. Place pumpkins on your porch or put a mini scarecrow amid your fall garden. These types of yard decor can make a nice touch for adding curb appeal to your lawn.

Choose fall plants for added curb appeal. You don’t have to work in your garden this fall if you don’t want to. You may want a break from gardening. It would be a nice touch though to have a couple flower pots on your porch. Plant some fall flower favorites. Some great flowers to plant in the fall are chrysanthemums and autumn joy sedum.

Clean the gutters. During the fall, trees lose their leaves. And sometimes these leaves land in your gutters. If you have trees on your property or nearby, make sure the gutters stay clear of leaves and debris. Clean the gutters before it gets cold and the snow starts to fall. You don’t want gutters clogged with leaves and melting snow. Clean gutters also boost your home’s appearance. Ever what looks like mini trees growing out of the gutters? Not a good look.

Preparing a Home for Sale

The first thing people notice when they look at a home for sale is the exterior. People are drawn to houses that fit their taste. The exterior of a home for sale can a person a lot about the property.

Besides the house itself, the lawn, the landscaping and walkways can give the property enhanced character. Similar homes, one with curb appeal, the other without curb appeal, will fare differently when it comes to attracting buyers.

You can sell your home faster if you give your house lots of curb appeal. This is especially important during a down real estate market.

Here are four things buyers look for when searching for a property.

A well-maintained lawn. Even if your landscaping isn’t fancy, a well-maintained green lawn lets potential buyers know that you take pride in your property. They also know they won’t have to do much work to combat weeds in the grass and overgrown shrubs were they to buy the house. They can pick up where you left off on the lawn care.

Colorful low-maintenance garden. A modest garden is the best approach when creating curb appeal to sell your home. You don’t want a massive garden because some potential buyers may be turned off from maintaining such a project. A modest colorful garden with low-maintenance plants meets a happy medium. It lets gardening enthusiasts know that plants do like and thrive on the property. Those that aren’t big on gardening, but like flowers or shrubs will be glad that the work is already done for them.

Mature trees. Trees add value to a property. Especially mature trees that provide shade and a breeze. If you don’t have any trees on your property, plant one. It will go a long way in helping a potential buyer see more potential in the home in the years to come. Choose a tree that will be reliable and establish itself well for your home’s location.

Smooth walkways. The walkway from the sidewalk or driveway to the door should be smooth with no cracks and rifts that could cause someone to trip. Potential buyers see this as work they’ll need to do themselves if they were to purchase the home. The less home improvement projects they see on their horizon, the better. If your walkway is in bad shape, consider placing it with new concrete, stone or brick walkway.

Here are two book recommendations to help you sell your home:
