Home curb appeal photos are a great way to get inspiration for your next landscaping project. Choose the design elements you like and put your own spin on it. As long as your home reflects your tastes you can’t go wrong.

Here are three home curb appeal photos you can use to gather landscape design ideas.

The property in this home curb appeal photo uses a large flower garden to not only create curb appeal but to also serve as as a functional border between it and the property next door. Take note of the mix of wild flowers the homeowner uses to create visual interest. The lawn is neatly manicured which adds to the landscape’s appeal.

Shrubbery and purple salvia are fill the front yard landscape of this home with rich color. The green and burgundy shrubs provide color all year long while the salvia is a seasonal interest throughout the yard. The arrangement of these plants provides a lot of depth as you eye is drawn to the front entryway. The light color of the brick on this home is a neutral backdrop to the landscaping. This is a home curb appeal photo you can use for inspiration.

In this third home curb appeal photo you’ll love the charming front entryway to this home. The red doors invite your eye toward the covered porch area where you see a rocking chair. The color complements the brick house and the off white painting on the railing and trim. Two large black flower pots stand on either side of the pathway and provides a nice contrast to stone walkway and the evergreen shrubs you see along the way.

This charming white house stands out in a beautifully classic way in this curb appeal photo. The gray shutters and light roofing are a nice complement against the white paneling. The landscape draws attention to the shrubs, red and pink flowers lining the walkway and driveway. The square shaped evergreens on each side of the front porch are a delightful touch. A lush green lawn inspires you to keep your grass neatly manicured.

You’ll love the charm and care demonstrated in these home curb appeal photos.

Fall is a wonderful time to celebrate the changing colors of the season. Create wonderful curb appeal to enjoy the autumn season at your own home. Here are four fall and autumn home curb appeal photos.

Hopefully these autumn home curb appeal photos will inspire you in your landscape design this season. As the leaves on the trees change color in the fall, incorporate those colors in your yard.

Transform your landscape into fall curb appeal with some strategically placed flower pots. Place them among your current landscape for a change. Fall chrysanthemums in purple, orange or golden yellow give this home autumn appeal. The home owner also uses other autumn season touches, such as a wreath, to complement their landscape. The bright punches of floral color in this landscape really draws in the eye.

This second fall curb appeal photo will shows that you don’t have to have an elaborate flower garden to showcase fall colors. A couple of potted chrysanthemums will do to add to your home’s curb appeal. Set the flower pots of chrysanthemums on your porch or steps and you’ve got instant fall color. Make sure you use sturdy, heavy pots to prevent them from tipping over from the wind. The owner of this home has chosen to use purple and yellow chrysanthemums to brighten up their entryway.

Lush greenery and hints of autumn color add lots of warmth to this home’s entryway. Flanking each side of the walkway are bushes and flowers to provide a softened contrast to the brick walkway. The borders come right to the sidewalk so that passersby can enjoy this homeowner’s sense of curb appeal.

In this fourth of the fall curb appeal photos you’ll see the owner of this house has made an inviting entryway for visitors. The white picket fence offers a charming separation between the lawn and the house without becoming a barrier. It’s also a nice backdrop for the shrubs and hostas to stand out. The wreath om the front door enhances this home’s curb appeal.

Interlocking pavers are tiles made of brick or concrete used to produce cobblestone walkways. The individual interlocking brick pavers fit together to form a patterned driveway, walkway or patio. Since they need no mortar or grout, interlocking brick pavers are easy to install and even easier to maintain by yourself.

The magnificence of interlocking brick pavers may initially attract a designer or homeowner to apply interlocking brick pavers, but this flexible building material has a lot more to give. Concrete interlock pavers are made from a poured concrete which make them resilient and durable.

Since interlocking pavers come in a broad variety of shapes, you’re not bound to use standard squares which imitate European cobblestones. An example is the diagonal tiles with rectangular arrangement which makes the herringbone pattern. Same goes with the hexagons that fit firmly together. Some companies even convert interlock pavers to various designs imaginable.

You can save in installing interlocking pavers because it’s so handy to the homeowner. First, dig the part you desire to a depth of 2-4″ (5-10 cm), depending on the tile’s width. To make the surface even, put a thin layer of gravel and a thicker layer of sand. Set the tile on top in the designed layout.

Instead of connecting the bricks, you simply fill down fine sand particles by pouring grout between the joints. The sand stabilizes the interlocking pavers yet allows for some flexibility. Meaning, this kind of pavement will absorb stress such as freezes and thaws, slight ground erosion and small earthquakes by switching each tile a bit. Hence, they will not crack or collapse like concrete.

Vibrator, a tamping machine, is the only unique device needed for installing interlocking pavers. It actually vibrates the tiny spheres of sand until they are packed together. The sand doesn’t easily wash out with rain or garden hose water. You can choose for an extra sealer, but many interlock pavers come pre-sealed. A driveway would particularly gain from a sealer, as you won’t want oil and tire marks to blemish.

A garden shepherd hook would be a beautiful addition to your garden and landscape. It provides additional space to hang flower baskets in your yard. Here is how to use garden shepherd hooks to create home curb appeal.

Purchase garden shepherd hooks from your local garden and home center. These are sold in the area with landscaping decor and hanging plants. Garden shepherd hooks will have one or two hooks for hanging your plants, bird feeder or wind chimes. The choice is up to you on how you’ll use them in your landscaping.

Place your garden shepherd hook in the ground in a location that will receive the right amount of sunlight for the plant you’ll use. Put the stake in the ground deep enough so it will be sturdy. Garden shepherd hooks should be visible from the curb and whatever vantage point from which you’d like to enjoy the view of your flowers. A central location on your front lawn is a good location for garden shepherd hooks that will hold plants. If you are hanging wind chimes, place it close to your front porch so that you can enjoy the sounds on the chimes.

Hang your plant, bird feeder or wind chimes on the garden shepherd hooks. The hanging flower or plant basket should be securely on the hook so that it does not fall off. It should be able to withstand a strong breeze. Water your flowers as usual.

If you using the garden shepherd hook to hold a bird feeder, place it away from deck or fence railings or any place where clever squirrels could possibly use for launching just to reach the feeder. It is a great idea to put it near windows where you can also see the birds. The metal pole is usually too narrow for squirrels to climb. Hang the feeders and load it with seeds. Truly, this stop squirrels from climbing, same goes for chipmunks.

Here are two options to purchase:

Landscape garden edging will not only enhance your landscape, but it will also increase its value. These borders are used to help define sections of plants, particularly the flower beds. Another function of landscape garden edging is to keep weeds and grass from growing inside the flower beds. Lastly, it will keep the mulch or other covering in its place.

There are three types of landscape garden edging and all of them differ according to design, materials and prices. Now, to achieve the satisfactory result that you want, select the right border for your garden project.

Here are the three kinds of borders to choose from:

Aluminum landscape edging
There are many types of aluminum landscape edging. You can get ready-made borders that have already been cut and shaped to suit any types of flower beds. What’s more, aluminum landscape edging are made to withstand harsh weathers so you can be sure that your flower bed will stay intact even in extreme weather conditions.

Plastic landscape edging
Plastic landscape edging is the most affordable option. It also comes in various styles and is not hard to shape based on the form of your beds. Plastic landscape garden edging is also easy to set up as the pieces are joined together by simply snapping the pieces together.

Metal landscape edging
Although metal landscape edging is the most expensive type of all the borders, it is preferred by most landscapers because it is durable and flexible. The flexibility will allow the user to easily install it in straight or curved border. Metal landscape edging is usually fastened together by clips that come with every piece. These are a variety of available brands. Choose a brand that suits your taste and of course, your budget. But whatever type you prefer, it will surely make your garden project clean and nice looking.

Each spring, many gardeners enjoy the satisfaction of creating beautiful flower beds for the new season. In order to fully showcase the beauty of their flowers, a gardener may want to consider adding garden stone edging around the borders of their flower bed.

Garden edging stones add a distinguished appearance to the overall look of the flower bed, and the job is rather simple so it does not need to be performed by a professional. In order to complete this job, a gardener will need to assemble a shovel, gloves, a hose, and a hand shovel. Although it is fairly easy to perform, the job can be rather messy.

The first step to installing garden stone edging is to measure the area in which the gardener intends to install the garden edging stones. These measurements are necessary so a gardener will know how much stone they need to order. The length of the stones will determine how many needed to be purchased.

The next step is to dig a trench around the outside of the area where the stones will be installed. The depth of the trench should be approximately half of the height of the stones being used. The stones may now be laid into the trench and positioned according to the gardener’s preferences. Each stone should be level. The dirt should be filled in around each stone once it is level.

After the garden stone edging has been installed, the gardener should use their hose to water around the area where the garden stones were placed. There is not a need to flood the area; however, the ground should be fairly moist. Moistening the ground packs the soil more firmly around the stones and makes the garden edging stones more secure. The ground may also be packed down more firmly with one’s feet.

For the garden stone edging pictured above, you can purchase a Set of Fourteen Grandin Road Light Stone Edging from here.

A garden trellis is a simple frame that provides a stable frame for climbing plants to grow and spread. Many gardeners wonder how to build a garden trellis; however, it is not a difficult task. More intricate trellises may require a more experienced hand.

Cedar Garden Trellis Arbor

Before a person undertakes the task of building a trellis, there are several items that should be taken into consideration. The first item to decide when you building garden trellis is what kind of material the trellis should be constructed from. Most gardeners opt for a durable form of wood when they build a garden trellis; however, metals, such as copper or iron, may also be used.

The second item when building a garden trellis to consider is the style of the trellis and how well it will incorporate into an individual’s garden. The third item to consider when you want to build a garden trellis is what types of plants the trellis will be supporting. It is important that the garden trellis offers adequate support for vigorous growing plants.

To build a garden trellis, an individual should first purchase the needed materials. For a simple design, sixteen, six foot lengths of durable wood will suffice. Additionally, an individual will need to ensure that they have certain tools, such as a hammer, hand saw, and nails. Fifteen of the slats of wood should be trimmed so that they are the same length. The final slat will be divided into one four inch length piece, one sixteen inch piece, and one thirty six inch length piece.

The next step to build a garden trellis, a person should measure twelve inches from one of the stack of lumber. The four-inch strip should be added to this measure. A level should be used to ensure that it stands at a proper 90 degree angle. The strip should be attached across the surfaces of all fifteen slats. At approximately 24 inches from this crossbar, the sixteen-inch strip should be attached. From the second crossbar, an individual should measure another 24 inches. The thirty six inch strip should be attached in a similar manner to the other two. Now, the garden trellis is completed.

The final step to build a garden trellis will be to dig a hole within the garden and to insert the garden trellis to the desired length. The dirt should be packed in tightly around the trellis to ensure it has adequate support. Finally, an individual should plant their vines at the base of the trellis and allow nature to take its course.

Decorative concrete curbing is a kind of decorative landscape curbing making use of concrete. It’s become quite famous over the past decade and serves as an alternate to metal or plastic landscape edging.

Installation of decorative concrete curbing has become popular in garden landscapes all over the world. Usually, a special machine specifically designed for concrete landscape curbing is used for installation. Because of the laborious and expensive installation process involved with decorative concrete curbing, it’s usually done to make a permanent border. It’s not advisable to install this in areas with changeable landscape, like around a swimming pool that is not permanent because it will not last long, or near pine trees where borders have a great tendency to expand as the tree continues to grow.

Decorative concrete curbing can also be utilized to emphasize a flowerbed or any other areas which has been landscaped. There are many available stamps and colors in varying options to achieve the kind of look that you desire. The concrete border, aside from its decorative purpose also serves as a barrier of plant roots. Because of its natural heavy weight, decorative concrete curbing doesn’t rise when there is frost, not like plastic landscape edging.

Decorative concrete curbing could prove to be a very durable and beautiful option when it comes to landscaping borders and edges. It’s not so hard to make the concrete curbing. Moreover, it freely allows you to add your personal touch, like decorative stamping and color addition in your concrete. A simple tip though, if you’ll be using a product made of real wood for the concrete forms, make sure that the sides which will get in contact with concrete will be sprayed liberally with cooking spray. This will allow molds to be easily released from your concrete once it’s been cured.

Rubber Mulch has a lot of advantages compared to mulches that are based on plant material.

Here are some pros and cons of using rubber mulch in your landscape garden bed.

Advantages of Rubber Mulch

• Rubber mulch is much more durable and longer lasting than traditional mulch.

• For gardening and landscaping purposes, both rubber mulch buffing and nuggets insulate the soil from the heat which allow a 2-3 deg F higher temperature difference on soil compared to wood mulches.

• Since rubber is known to be non-porous and doesn’t absorb any water, rubber mulch is considered as beneficial to help keep the soil moisturized.

• Rubber mulch reduces plant and fungus growth, and serves as a barrier for weeds.

• Neither buffing nor nuggets give any humus to soil types which are compacted. Humus is an organic substance from the breakdown of plant material.

• When it comes to elasticity, rubber mulch is obviously more advantageous compared to plant material mulch because of its naturally springy quality making it the natural and best choice for playgrounds. Its natural springiness provides an added safety for the kids each time they fall.

Disadvantages of Rubber Mulch

• Rubber mulch can smell of rubber during very hot weather. This is more likely with new rubber mulch in a large garden area.

• There might be leached chemicals on some variety of rubber mulch, some may even be toxic, which would be very harmful and dangerous to plants. Only use trusted rubber mulch brands such as Dupont Rubber Mulch. Place it over landscape fabric to create a barrier from the garden soil.

• Just like most mulches made of organic materials, rubber mulches could be very hazardous when ignited. Since it’s composed of rubber materials, it would be harder to extinguish.

• Although in general, rubber mulch is safe, tire materials which have been recycled still contain compounds and minerals which could be hazardous when high concentrations are used.

Now that you’re armed with the information you need on this alternative to traditional landscaping mulch you can make a more informed decision.
